چکیده
Abstract This article reports on a new project to investigate the activities of early Homo sapiens in area Chotts ‘megalake’ southern Tunisia. Excavations 2015 and 2019 at Oued el Akarit revealed one number Middle Stone Age (MSA) horizons near top long sequence Upper Pleistocene deposits. The site identified as ( Sondage 8 ) consists lithic artefacts, bone fragments large ungulates pieces ostrich eggshell. Many objects are burnt. Excavation about nine square metres that these were associated with lightly trampled combusted occupation surface. Amongst artefacts Levallois flakes some which could be refitted, thereby indicating generally undisturbed nature occupation. finds also included side scrapers other tools diagnostic MSA but significantly no bifacial or tanged tools. OSL (Optically Stimulated Luminescence) dating sediments AMS (Accelerator Mass Spectrometry) radiocarbon eggshell have produced uncalibrated age determinations range 37,000–40,000 years ago, youngest ages for sites region. is first example securely dated later riparian environment south-eastern

The Nubian Complex of Dhofar, Oman: An African Middle Stone Age Industry in Southern Arabia
Despite the numerous studies proposing early human population expansions from Africa into Arabia during the Late Pleistocene, no archaeological sites have yet been discovered in Arabia that resemble a specific African industry, which would indicate demographic exchange across the Red Sea. Here we report the discovery of a buried site and more than 100 new surface scatters in the Dhofar region o...
متن کاملAges for the Middle Stone Age of southern Africa: implications for human behavior and dispersal.
The expansion of modern human populations in Africa 80,000 to 60,000 years ago and their initial exodus out of Africa have been tentatively linked to two phases of technological and behavioral innovation within the Middle Stone Age of southern Africa-the Still Bay and Howieson's Poort industries-that are associated with early evidence for symbols and personal ornaments. Establishing the correct...
متن کاملStable isotope paleoecology of Late Pleistocene Middle Stone Age humans from the Lake Victoria basin, Kenya.
Paleoanthropologists have long argued that environmental pressures played a key role in human evolution. However, our understanding of how these pressures mediated the behavioral and biological diversity of early modern humans and their migration patterns within and out of Africa is limited by a lack of archaeological evidence associated with detailed paleoenvironmental data. Here, we present t...

متن کاملRevised age of late Neanderthal occupation and the end of the Middle Paleolithic in the northern Caucasus.
Advances in direct radiocarbon dating of Neanderthal and anatomically modern human (AMH) fossils and the development of archaeostratigraphic chronologies now allow refined regional models for Neanderthal-AMH coexistence. In addition, they allow us to explore the issue of late Neanderthal survival in regions of Western Eurasia located within early routes of AMH expansion such as the Caucasus. He...
